In Cannes everything depends on the calendar. For eleven months of the year the town is easy to cross and you can drive the Croisette to the hotel door. During the Festival, MIPIM, MIPCOM or Cannes Lions, the district around the Palais des Festivals switches to closed traffic, the drop-off points move and slots are negotiated by the quarter hour. A driver who knows these weeks doesn't take the Boulevard de la Croisette: he comes in by the Rue d'Antibes or the Boulevard Carnot and drops as close to the open access point as he can get. The rest of the year, pick-ups spread between the seafront hotels, the station, the Old Port and its Quai Saint-Pierre, the Suquet, and the residential Californie district. Nice Airport remains the main gateway, half an hour away on the A8.

Thirty minutes on the A8, Cannes-Mougins exit, then the approach road. The point to watch isn't the motorway but the arrival: during a trade fair, the approach road and the town centre double the journey time. A driver who knows the period comes in by the Boulevard Carnot rather than the Croisette, and warns you in advance how far you will be walking.

How does a drop-off work during the Cannes Film Festival?
The perimeter around the Palais des Festivals is closed and the drop-off points move each year. We come in by whichever roads are open and drop as close to the access control as possible, often a few hundred metres from your final destination. Book several days ahead for this period: slots go quickly and traffic doubles journey times.
Can you take us to the Lérins island ferries?
Yes, the drop-off is at Quai Laubeuf, where the boats leave for Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat. We set the time from the ferry's departure, not from the hour you happen to aim for.
Is Cannes to Saint-Tropez faster by road or by boat?
By road, allow about 1 hr 15 outside high season, and appreciably more in July and August when the gulf clogs. The sea shuttle avoids the queue but depends on the weather and fixed timetables. By car you leave when you like and arrive at the exact address.
