Nice-Ville Station: how the pick-up works
Nice-Ville, which locals still call Gare Thiers, is the Riviera's principal station: TGV from Paris, overnight Intercités, regional trains to Monaco, Menton, Cannes and Ventimiglia, and services into the hinterland on the Train des Merveilles line. The forecourt on Avenue Thiers is narrow and the drop-off zone is regulated and often full: a driver therefore waits at an agreed spot rather than as close to the doors as possible. The station is right in the centre, which puts the Promenade des Anglais five minutes away and the airport a quarter of an hour. It also acts as a feeder for travellers arriving by train and continuing to Monaco, Cannes or the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, where the railway stops. The train is tracked: a pick-up is set by the actual time, not the timetable.
