Nice concentrates everything that makes the French Riviera awkward to drive: an airport glued to the city, a partly pedestrianised centre, riverside expressways that clog at rush hour and an old town no saloon car enters. A private driver here mostly solves a logistics problem. From Terminal 2, allow a quarter of an hour to reach the Promenade des Anglais, a little more for the Vieux-Nice where the drop-off happens as close to the lanes as possible, on Cours Saleya or Place Garibaldi. Hotels in the Carré d'Or and on the Cimiez hill, the clinics in the west, the Nikaïa arena, the Allianz Riviera stadium and Port Lympia account for most pick-ups. The port deserves a separate mention: ferry departures for Corsica require you to be quayside well before boarding, and Quai Amiral Infernet is hard to reach during a cruise call.

Seven kilometres separate Terminal 2 from the centre: the shortest run on the coast, and the one most dependent on city traffic. The Promenade des Anglais is reached via the Voie Mathis or along the seafront, the latter slower but safer when the expressway jams. For the Vieux-Nice and the port, allow five minutes more: the pedestrian zone has to be driven round.

The lanes of the Vieux-Nice are pedestrian or too narrow for a saloon car. Pick-up happens right on the edge: Cours Saleya on the Quai des États-Unis side, Place Garibaldi, or Boulevard Jean-Jaurès. The exact spot is agreed when you book and sent to you before the journey.
How long from the airport to Port Lympia for a ferry?
About fifteen minutes outside rush hour, up to thirty at busy times or during a cruise call. For a sailing to Corsica, plan to arrive at least an hour before departure: we set the pick-up from your boarding deadline, not the ship's departure time.
