Menton Station: how the pick-up works
Menton station is the last French station on the coastal line before Ventimiglia, and it serves Mentonnais residents as much as travellers in transit to Italy. It takes regional trains, at good frequency towards Monaco and Nice. Its position on the high ground above the centre means a descent to the seafront and the old town: a few minutes by car, but a good ten on foot, downhill, with luggage. That is what makes the journey worthwhile here. From the station, the border and the Ventimiglia market are a quarter of an hour away, Monaco twenty minutes, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin ten. A second halt exists at Menton-Garavan, closer to the gardens and the eastern districts, but with far fewer trains.

Is the station near the seafront?
It is on the high ground above the centre: a few minutes by car to the seafront, but a good ten on foot downhill, which is uncomfortable with luggage.
Can I continue into Italy from the station?
Yes: Ventimiglia is a quarter of an hour away, Bordighera twenty minutes, San Remo forty. Bring valid identification for every passenger.
Garavan or Menton — which halt?
Menton for frequency and the centre, Garavan if you are staying to the east near the gardens. Garavan is served by only a few trains: check your ticket.
